Patience Is

I sit so patiently and wait
For that creak of garden gate
Drivers slam a hundred doors
But I know which one is yours
Through the darkness I can see
So you have no escape from me
I know your footsteps and your smell
Each routine known all too well
I’ve had a very busy day
Hiding all my toys away
Chasing leaves around the trees
Pawing spiders, bugs and bees
I caught a present just for you
Which I’ve hidden in a shoe
The sparrow put up quite a fight
By now he should be dead alright
So as my chores have all been done
My little body spent of fun
I sit beside my empty dish
To wait for Daddy and the fish
